About Rose’s

Justin and Katie Meddis opened Rose’s Meat Market & Sweet Shop in 2013, fusing Justin’s skill at whole animal butchery with Katie’s talent for artisan pastry. In addition to selling meat and sweets, the Shop offered sandwiches and developed a strong to-go lunch business.

Inspired by his time cooking in award-winning Japanese restaurant kitchens in the Bay area, Justin soon introduced ramen to the menu. Available only on Wednesdays, Rose’s flavorful ramen featured a complex broth made from pork bones left from the butchery. It quickly developed a cult-like following and allowed Justin to explore his passion for Asian cuisine and ingredients. Rose’s to-go menu expanded to include the flavors of China, Japan and the rest of East Asia.

The menu changes daily based on what’s been sourced from their local producers and what is in season.

In Summer 2017 Rose’s made a full transformation of their space from Meat Market to an East Asian inspired eatery, serving new and old favorites alongside Katie’s delicious pies and pastries throughout the day. Just recently, Rose’s introduced authentic Asian-style breakfast with congee, pho and Chinese donuts and fresh-baked pastries and coffee.

Breakfast is ordered at the counter and served from 7:30am to noon, Wednesday through Friday, and 10am to 12pm on weekends. Rose’s offers full-service lunch starting at 11am featuring appetizers, salads, sandwiches and entrees including its famous ramen and noodle dishes. The menu changes daily based on what’s been sourced from their local producers and what is in season.

Katie’s pastries share equal billing, all prepared fresh daily. Selections change from day to day but Rose’s is known for their fresh fruit galettes, ice cream and ice cream sandwiches, macarons, homemade caramels, bread puddings and cookies.

Rose’s is passionate about cooking with high quality, local, pasture raised meats and using local sustainable ingredients.

Rose’s stays open until 5pm for late afternoon lunch or snacks and for dinner to-go orders during the week . On Saturdays Rose’s hours are 10 am to 8pm for those seeking dinner and 10am to 5pm Sundays. The entire menu is available for pre-order and pick up and Rose’s can create custom cakes and other sweets for nearly any event. Visit rosesdurham.com for details on catering and pre-orders.
